What is Juvéderm VOLUX?
Juvéderm VOLUX XC is a highly cohesive hyaluronic acid gel designed for deep injection along the jaw andchin areas. It’s part of the Vycross family (like Voluma), meaning it uses a special mix of HA molecularweights for a firm yet smooth consistency that molds well to bony areas and lasts long.
Key features
Maximum Lift Capacity
VOLUX has the highest elasticity and cohesivity among Juvedermfillers, which allows it to hold shape under the skin and mimic bone-like structure when placed along themandible or chin.
Ideal for Jawline/Chin
It was developed to improve jawline definition in adults withmoderate to severe jawline loss (think sagging or ill-defined jaw borders). It’s also fantastic foraugmenting a receding chin or adding width/projection to the chin for better facial proportions.
Lidocainefor Comfort
The “XC” indicates lidocaine is blended in to make the injections more comfortable.
Duration
Clinical studies show results can last up to 12 months or more in the jawline, with many patientsstill seeing improvement at 18 months. It’s a longer-lasting filler due to its firmness and placement on lessmobile areas (your jaw doesn’t move as much as, say, your mouth corners).
Natural Look and Feel
Despite its firmness, once integrated, VOLUX moves naturally with your expressions. Because it’s placeddeeply against the bone, it shouldn’t be visible – just your new contour is seen. To the touch, your skinremains soft; you might feel a bit more underlying firmness if pressing hard along the jawline, but generallyit feels like your own jawbone (that’s the idea!).

What can VOLUX do?
Define a blurry jawline, creating a cleaner separation between jaw and neck.
Reduce the appearance ofjowls by filling the posterior jaw area and along the jawline, thereby straightening the jaw contour.
Augment a chin that is recessed or undersized, improving facial harmony (especially in profile view).
Add a bit of width or squareness to the jaw if desired (for instance, some males or anyone wanting a more“angular” look).
Balance facial proportions: e.g., if your lower face is comparatively small, adding volumeto chin/jaw can bring it into balance with midface and forehead.
It’s also used in non-surgical face liftingtechniques – by building structure at the back of the jaw (near the ears), we create a sort of support that canhave a lifting effect on nearby tissues.
This treatment is popular with both men and women. Men often seek a more angular, strong jawline; women may want a crisper jaw while still keeping it feminine (we can achieve that by placement technique – for women, maintaining a softer angle versus very square). We tailor the approach to your aesthetic goals.
Benefits of Jawline Contouring with VOLUX
Dramatic Yet Natural Transformation
The jawline is a defining feature. Sharpening it can dramaticallyimprove your side profile and overall face shape. With VOLUX, you get implant-like results without surgery –it’s been called a “liquid jaw implant”! The best part is how natural it looks; you’ll just appear like you alwayshad a great jawline.
Quick Procedure, No Downtime
In as little as 30-45 minutes, we can reshape your jaw/chin and you cango back to your day. No incisions, no general anesthesia, no weeks of swelling or bandages like a surgerywould entail. Minor swelling or bruising is the worst you’ll likely face, and a little tenderness, all of whichtypically subsides within days.
Customizable Results
We can adjust the amount and location of filler to achieve the look you want. It’snot one-size-fits-all. Want just a slight tweak to the chin? Done. Need a full jawline overhaul? We can do thattoo, step by step. We often have you hold a mirror and discuss shape during the process to ensure you’reloving the direction.
Reversible/Adjustable
Although you’ll probably love your new jaw, it’s comforting to know thathyaluronic fillers like VOLUX can be dissolved with an enzyme if ever needed (say, if you wanted to modifythe result). Also, as trends or your preferences change, we can adapt your look at your next treatment, maybe adding more or letting it reduce. You’re not permanently stuck with an implant or surgical outcome. It’s flexible beauty.
Improved Profile & Neck Definition
A defined jawline can even create the illusion of a slimmer face ortighter neck. By providing a clear edge to the jaw, the neck area looks more taut. Many clients note theirdouble chin or slight sag under the chin seems less noticeable post-treatment (though that may be a visualeffect of a stronger chin or jaw contrast).
High Satisfaction Rate
According to Allergan’s studies, a large percentage of patients were satisfied orvery satisfied with their jawline after VOLUX treatment. It addresses a concern that was previously hard tofix without surgery. Our clients often say they feel more confident and attractive from every angle.
Long Lasting Confidence
With results that can last a year or more, you get to enjoy your enhancedfeatures for a long time. Many opt to do minor touch-ups at around a year mark just to keep edges crisp. The longevity also makes it cost-effective over time compared to some other injectables.
At Parpar, our injectors have a keen understanding of facial anatomy and aesthetics. We use that expertiseto ensure symmetry and appropriate proportions – for instance, making sure your chin isn’t over-projected, or your jawline enhancement aligns with your natural muscle and bone structure for a realistic result. We might also suggest complementary treatments; e.g., some clients combine VOLUX with a bit of Botox in the masseter muscles if they desire a slimmer lower face or to reduce clenching. Or, combine with Voluma in the cheeks to balance both upper and lower face. We take a holistic view.
What to Expect During the VOLUX Jawline Treatment
Consult & Design
We’ll examine your jaw and chin from the front and profile. We may take photos so wecan mark on them or show you comparisons later. Together, we’ll discuss what shape appeals to you – forexample, a more oval chin vs. a broader one, a sharp gonial angle (the back corner of the jaw) vs. a gentleone. We often measure or visually divide the face to ensure we achieve the ideal lower face proportionsrelative to your features (one classic guide: the chin should project to a vertical line dropped from the lowerlip in profile for women, slightly behind for men; we tailor these “rules”). We’ll also decide how manysyringes likely needed: for full jaw + chin contour, it could be 2-4 syringes of VOLUX. You might start withless and add later as needed.
Preparation
The injection sites are usually along the jawline (near the angle of the mandible by the ear,and along the jaw body) and chin. We’ll cleanse thoroughly and may use a removable white marker to mapout key points or the new jawline outline. Because we’re often injecting near bone, we might give localnumbing injections (similar to dental blocks) especially for chin, even though VOLUX has lidocaine, toensure max comfort. Or use strong topical numbing on the skin. Ice is also used to pre-numb and reducebruise risk.
Injection
We frequently use cannulas for jawline filler. We’ll make a tiny needle entry point near the angleof the jaw and then guide the cannula along the line of the jaw under the skin. The filler is then preciselyplaced in a retrograde fashion (pulling the cannula back as we deposit) to create a smooth linear implant ofsorts. For the chin, we often use a needle injection right on the bone at the center or slightly to each sidedepending on needed shape. You may feel some pressure or a dull scraping sensation as the cannulamoves (strange but not painful, given numbing). With the lidocaine mixing in, each pass gets easier
We add filler incrementally: – Chin: a bit to central projection, maybe some to widen if needed, alwaysstepping back to assess profile and frontal views. – Jawline: building the posterior jaw (near ear) forstructure, then along the jaw line towards chin for continuity. We ensure there’s no step-offs or overfilllumps. The goal is a straight, strong line from ear to chin (or a softly curved line in females, depending ondesired look).
Shaping & Symmetry
We will mold gently but since VOLUX is quite cohesive, it tends to stay where placed well. We compare both sides of your face to ensure symmetry from the front and oblique angles. Slightasymmetries in bone can be corrected by adding a touch more filler on one side if needed.
Review
We often give you the mirror mid-treatment after doing one side or partial, to let you see the difference and confirm you like it. It’s always a WOW moment – seeing one side sharp vs the other still soft. Once both sides are done, you can admire the full effect.
Duration
The procedure might take about 30 minutes of injecting time, plus some time for numbing. So plan for roughly an hour visit.
Aftercare
Expect some soreness – it can feel like you did a dental procedure or got bumped on the jaw, a bit tender or stiff when opening mouth widely for a day or two. – Swelling is usually mild along jawline, a bit more on chin possibly. Swelling peaks in 1-2 days then subsides. Bruising can happen, especially near chin or cannula entry points. These typically are mild and coverable. – We’ll advise avoiding heavy chewing, massage, or pressure on the jaw for 48 hours (so maybe skip chewing gum or a super chewy steak immediately). Soft diet day of and next if possible. – Sleep with head elevated on your back if you can, first1-2 nights, to prevent prolonged pressure on one side of jaw. – No helmets or tight straps on chin for a couple days (random but if you ride a motorcycle, for example, give it 2-3 days or pad it). – All other usual filler rules: no intense workout for 24h, no excessive heat, etc.
Follow-up
We like to see you at ~2 weeks. By then, swelling is gone and filler fully settled. We’ll check symmetry and results. Often, clients are thrilled and need nothing further. If a minor touch-up is needed(maybe adding a bit more if we were cautious initially, or smoothing any subtle unevenness – rare), we do it. Many clients also use this follow-up to say “Maybe I’ll add one more syringe for even more definition,” which we can do if appropriate. We keep track of how many syringes and where we placed them, so we know how to plan future maintenance.
Frequently Asked Questions
Am I a good candidate for jawline filler?
If you have any of the following concerns, likely yes: – A jawline that lacks definition or “blends” into theneck. – Mild to moderate jowling that you want to camouflage. – A chin that is short or recedes (from profile,it’s not aligned with your lips or nose tip). – Desire for a more sculpted, angular look to your lower face. -Overall volume loss at the jaw due to aging (hollows near ears, etc.). That said, if you have a lot of very looseskin (e.g., very heavy jowls or a turkey neck), filler can help to an extent but may not completely correctthose issues. We might then recommend combining with skin tightening or discussing surgical options. Also, if your concern is more a double chin due to fat, we might suggest fat reduction (like Kybella orCoolSculpting) in conjunction; filler doesn’t remove fat, it just shapes what’s there. At your consult, we’llevaluate these factors and ensure that jawline filler will meet your expectations.
How many syringes of VOLUX will I need?
This can vary widely: – For a modest chin augmentation alone: 1 syringe may be enough for a subtlechange; 2 for a more significant one. – For full jawline (both sides) and chin: often 2-4 syringes in total. Oneper side jaw and one to two for chin is a common plan for comprehensive restructuring. Men typically use abit more than women because they often want a stronger, broader jawline. We generally start with a certainnumber and you can add later if more definition is desired. It’s often better to not underdo it, because apartially treated jawline might look incomplete. But we also respect budget and can stage treatments (dochin and half jaw now, finish later, etc.). We’ll give you an honest recommendation.
Does jawline filler hurt?
We take measures to minimize discomfort. The jawline area with cannula is usually quite easy – mostly pressure, minimal pain because the cannula and lidocaine do most of the work. The chin injection (on bone) can cause a brief zing or pressure feeling – akin to getting an anesthetic shot at the dentist but milder. Weoften numb similar nerves to those a dentist numbs for procedures, which helps immensely. Patients commonly say the procedure was easier than expected. Post-procedure, soreness (like a dull ache) can occur especially when touching or chewing – it’s manageable, and you can use over-the-counter pain relievers (Tylenol or ibuprofen) if needed. In summary, a bit of discomfort, but very tolerable, and well worththe result.
What’s the difference between using VOLUX vs. other fillers or implants for jaw enhancement?
Compared to other fillers (Voluma, Radiesse): Voluma has been used off-label for jawline and chinquite a bit; it’s a bit less cohesive than VOLUX but still effective – though now that VOLUX exists, many prefer it for jaw/chin because it was made for that area. Radiesse (a calcium-based filler) is another option for jaw/ chin because it’s hard and structural, but it’s not HA (so not easily dissolvable) and can be firmer to mold. We prefer HA fillers like VOLUX for their safety, reversibility, and typically smoother integration. VOLUX specifically gives a very high lift capacity with the benefits of HA. It’s like the newest tool that gives superior results for jawline. –
Compared to Implants: Chin implants (silicone) have been around for decades, and jaw angle implants exist too. Surgery can place those for permanent results. However, surgery has downtime, anesthesia, risk of infection, implant shifting, etc. Plus, implants yield a fixed shape – not easily adjustable. Filler is nonsurgical, minimal downtime, and shape is customizable each time. If someone absolutely wants a permanent solution and is okay with surgery, they might choose that, but many patients try filler first to “preview” and often are so happy they stick with periodic filler instead of surgery. Also, implants address bone projection but don’t lift soft tissue like filler can – filler can blend and smooth transitions (for example, soften a pre-jowl sulcus) in a way an implant doesn’t. And if you already have an implant, filler can still finesse around it if needed.
Will the results feel weird or look overdone?
When administered properly, results look natural yet enhanced. We base the augmentation on youroverall face proportions, aiming for balance. Most people will notice you look better, but may not pinpointthat it’s jawline filler – often they assume weight loss (since a sharp jawline is associated with leanness), orjust a more defined profile. As for feel: externally, your skin will still feel like skin. Along the bony edge, itmight feel a bit firmer if pressed deeply, but generally it’s not noticeable day to day. You will likely feel thedifference in how sunglasses or hats sit (if you fill temple or forehead, not relevant here) – for jaw, maybeyou’ll feel a subtle firmness if you rest your hand on your jawline, but it’s not bothersome. Many forget it’seven there until they see their snatched jaw in photos. We always err on the side of a refined, proportionallook. If a client desires an extreme or very sharp result, we discuss how to do it without compromisingnaturalness. And remember, if somehow it’s a bit much for you, it can be adjusted. However, in ourexperience, after a short “getting used to my new chin” period, clients love it and don’t find it weird at all – itquickly becomes the new normal.
Any risks or side effects specific to jawline filler?
The general filler risks (bruising, swelling, asymmetry, nodule, etc.) exist, but serious ones are rare.Around the jawline, important structures include facial artery and veins – we use cannulas which greatlymitigate the risk of intravascular injection. The chin area has some arteries too; again, we inject carefully, aspirate, and use appropriate technique to avoid complications. A theoretical risk is of vascular occlusion(filler blocking a blood vessel) which can compromise skin. We are prepared to treat that immediately with hyaluronidase if it occurs. But this is extremely rare, especially with experienced injectors and cannula use –we’ve not encountered it with jawline treatments in our practice. Another side effect: due to filler’s weight, extremely heavy filler use in jaw (especially in front of ear) could possibly cause a slight downward pull ontissues if overdone – that’s why we shape strategically and not just heap filler. Some patients mayexperience temporary tightness or stiffness when opening mouth wide if a lot was injected near masseter –it subsides as tissue adapts. Infection risk is minimal but we use sterile technique. We advise avoidingdental cleanings or procedures for 2 weeks (they can introduce bacteria into bloodstream which is rare buttheoretically could seed into a new filler area). Overall, jawline filler with HA is considered safe and effective, with minimal downsides in healthy candidates.
