JUVÉDERM® ULTRA 3

When it comes to trusted fillers, JUVÉDERM® is a household name – and Juvederm Ultra 3 (also known as Juvederm Ultra XC in the U.S.) is a true workhorse in the lineup. At Parpar Medical Spa, we use Ultra 3 to tackle those common signs of aging like nasolabial folds (smile lines) and marionette lines, as well as to provide subtle lip enhancement and facial contouring.

If you’re in Suffern, NY or nearby (Upper Saddle River, Nyack, etc.) and looking for a proven solution to rejuvenate your face, Juvederm Ultra 3 could be your perfect match

What is Juvederm Ultra 3?

Juvederm Ultra 3 is a hyaluronic acid dermal filler designed to fill and smooth medium to deep wrinkles, and to enhance or restore volume in areas like the lips and mid-face. It’s part of Allergan’s Juvederm family, known for their smooth gel consistency and long-lasting results.

Key characteristics of Ultra 3: – Consistency: It’s a medium-viscosity gel – more robust than the ultra-soft fillers for fine lines, but not as thick as heavy volumizing fillers. This makes it ideal for moderate-depth injections in the mid-dermis to deeper dermis. – Lidocaine Formulation: The “XC” versions contain a bit of lidocaine anesthetic, which helps numb the area during treatment for added comfort. – Results: It provides a noticeable yet natural fill – softening creases and restoring gentle contours without feeling hard. When skillfully injected, it moves with your expressions, so your face looks relaxed and youthful, not stiff.

Common Uses of Juvederm Ultra 3

Nasolabial Folds

Those “parentheses” lines from the corners of your nose to mouth can be plumped from beneath, making them far less pronounced.

Marionette Lines

The lines from the mouth corners down toward the chin are often diminished, giving you a more uplifted look (no more perma-frown).

Lips

The lines from the mouth corners down toward the chin are often diminished, giving you a more uplifted look (no more perma-frown).

Commissures

The downturned corners of the mouth can be gently filled to turn that frown upside down.

Chin & Jawline

In some cases, we use Ultra 3 to fill minor chin creases or pre-jowl sulcus (the hollow ahead of jowls) for a smoother jawline transition.

Nose Enhancements (Liquid Rhinoplasty)

On occasion, this filler can be used for small nose touch-ups like softening a bump or lifting the tip, though thicker fillers are more common for that.

Duration

You can expect results to last roughly 9 to 12 months, sometimes longer, depending on the area treated and individual factors. Areas with more movement (like lips) might metabolize a bit faster (closer to 6-9 months for lips typically), whereas less mobile areas hold closer to a year. Juvederm’s proprietary Hylacross technology gives it a smooth formulation that tends to break down gradually and evenly.

Benefits of Juvederm Ultra 3 at Parpar

Instant, Noticeable Results

One of the joys of filler treatments is the immediate gratification. Walk in with folds or flatness, walk out with smoother, plumper skin. Juvederm Ultra 3 instantly fills wrinkles and adds volume, so you won’t have to wait to see improvement – just a bit of settling time for any swelling, and you’re good to glow.

Natural Look & Feel

Juvederm is known for integrating nicely with tissue. Ultra 3’s medium consistency is firm enough to lift folds, yet soft enough to move naturally with your skin. When our skilled injectors place it at the correct depth, you can’t see or feel the filler, just the absence of the wrinkle. Your expressions remain authentic, just refreshed.

Collagen Boosting Bonus

Like all HA fillers, Juvederm Ultra 3 can stimulate your body’s collagen production in the treated area. While it’s primarily a space-filler, there’s evidence that the stretching of fibroblasts (cells in your skin) from the filler can lead them to produce new collagen over time. This means you might maintain some improved skin firmness even after the filler eventually resorbs.

Minimally Invasive,
Maximal Impact

Minimally Invasive, Maximal Impact: Treatment involves only a few small injections with fine needles or cannula, depending on the area and technique. There’s no surgery, no incisions, and essentially no downtime beyond perhaps a day of mild swelling. It’s a lunchtime procedure that can take years off your face or enhance your features in a subtle yet impactful way.

Custom-Tailored
Treatment

At Parpar, we don’t do one-size-fits-all. Our aesthetic specialist assesses your facial anatomy and aging pattern to determine where and how much filler to use. For deep nasolabial folds caused by cheek volume loss, we may add filler to both the cheek and fold. For lip enhancement, we’ll discuss your desired shape and fullness to create a look that suits your face. Your personalized plan may include filler plus other treatments, like a touch of Botox, for optimal results.

Long-Standing Safety Record

Juvederm products, including Ultra 3, have been widely used for years and have a strong safety profile. They are FDA-approved and extensively studied. Side effects are typically minor (temporary swelling, redness, possible bruising). Allergic reactions are exceedingly rare since the hyaluronic acid is non-animal and biocompatible. At Parpar, we use authentic, sealed Juvederm sourced directly from the manufacturer – your safety is paramount.

Comprehensive Aesthetic Care

Our Suffern location is convenient for Rockland and Bergen County clients, and our team’s reputation for excellence means you’re in good hands. We take time to educate you on the process, so you feel comfortable and excited about your enhancements. From the moment you consult with us, you’ll notice the Parpar difference in professionalism and personalization.

No matter the reason, know that wanting an adjustment is okay! We’re here to help, not judge. Our team will listen to your concerns and create a plan – whether it’s complete dissolving and starting fresh, or just a minor tweak to refine the outcome.

Your Juvederm Ultra 3 Treatment Experience

1

Consultation

We’ll start by discussing your goals and examining your facial features. We’ll pinpoint areas that could benefit from filler. Some clients come in focused on one concern (say, “these lines by my mouth”), and others want a broader refresh. We’ll give honest recommendations – perhaps Ultra 3 for your smile lines, and maybe a different filler if needed for another area (like a firmer filler for a chin augmentation). We’ll also review your medical history and ensure you’re a candidate (most people are; we avoid treatment if
you’re pregnant, breastfeeding, or have active infection in the area).

2

Preparation

We’ll cleanse your skin thoroughly. If you’re sensitive, we can apply a numbing cream on the injection sites for about 15 minutes – though many find it quite tolerable without it, since Juvederm Ultra 3 contains lidocaine. We’ll also pre-mark the injection points while you’re upright, so we know exactly where to place the filler to counter gravity’s effects.

3

Injection

Using either a fine needle or a cannula (a blunt-tipped thin tube, great for minimizing bruising in areas like nasolabial folds), the injector will introduce the filler under your skin. We typically inject a little, then withdraw, massage, and assess before adding more – gradually building up the desired correction. You might feel a pinch or slight pressure. With the lidocaine in the product, each subsequent injection feels easier as the area numbs up.

4

Injection

Using a fine needle or cannula, we inject the Hynidase into the areas where the unwanted filler resides. Because hyaluronic fillers are usually gel-like and distributed, we might do a series of small injections to cover the area thoroughly. The enzyme starts working immediately – often the tissue will feel softer within minutes as the filler begins to break apart.

For nasolabial folds, we often do a few entry points along the crease, fanning the filler into the fold. For lips, we might do injections at the vermilion border and body of the lip for volume and definition. There is flexibility in technique to achieve the best shape.

5

Shaping

Our injector will gently massage and mold the filler as needed. Juvederm is quite malleable initially. We ensure there are no lumps and the contour is smooth. If addressing symmetry, we check from various angles and may add a touch more to one side, etc.

6

Duration

The whole injection part might be 10-20 minutes, depending on how many areas and how much product. The entire visit may be around 30-45 minutes including prep.

7

Post-Treatment

You’ll receive an ice pack to reduce any swelling and we’ll go over aftercare: – Expect some swelling, especially if lips were treated. This can make results look a little “over-full” for the first day or two. Don’t panic – it subsides. – Bruises, if they occur, are usually small and coverable with makeup after 24 hours. We advise no blood-thinning medications or supplements for a couple days to minimize bruising. – Avoid strenuous exercise, alcohol, and excessive sun/heat for 24 hours, as these can increase swelling or bruising. – Do not press or massage the treated areas for the first day, unless instructed (sometimes gentle molding is recommended, but we’ll let you know). – You can gently wash your face and apply makeup by the next day.

8

Results Check

Results Check: We sometimes schedule an optional follow-up at ~2 weeks to see how you’re doing. By then, swelling is gone and the filler has fully settled. If any touch-up is needed (rare with proper initial treatment, but possible if asymmetry or if you decide you want a bit more volume), we can address it then.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Juvederm Ultra 3 the same as Juvederm Ultra Plus?

They are very similar. The naming can be a bit confusing internationally. Juvederm Ultra 3 (often just called Ultra) corresponds to a medium thickness filler. In the U.S., Juvederm Ultra Plus is a comparable product for moderate to deeper wrinkles. Essentially, Ultra 3 is the version used for moderate lines and lip enhancement, whereas Ultra 4 (Ultra Plus in some markets) is a bit thicker for deeper folds. When you
come in, we’ll make sure you get the product that best suits your needs – the differences are subtle and mostly about how robust the filler is. Rest assured, both are hyaluronic acid fillers with lidocaine and work under the same principle.

The amount (measured in syringes) depends on the areas treated and the severity of volume loss or wrinkles. For moderate nasolabial folds, 1 syringe (1ml) can often treat both sides nicely. If we’re also doing lips, an additional syringe is usually needed (we often use 1ml for lips alone for a noticeable but natural augmentation). We might start with 1 syringe, evaluate, and if more is beneficial, we can do it in the same session or at a later date. Because our philosophy is not to overdo, we sometimes recommend starting modestly. We’ll give you an estimate during your consult – e.g., 1 syringe for folds, 1 for lips = 2 total. Remember, you don’t have to do it all at once; some clients budget to do one area now, another later. We’re
flexible and will prioritize based on your goals.

Patients are often surprised how easy it is. There are a few “pinch” moments, especially initial needle pricks. But the presence of lidocaine in Juvederm really helps after the first injection or two. If treating the lips, those tend to sting a bit but numb quickly. We also apply topical numbing cream and can even do a dental block (similar to what a dentist does) for the lips if you’re very nervous about pain. Most people, however, do great with just the lidocaine filler and maybe some ice. They describe the sensation as a slight pressure or burning that lasts seconds. Our gentle technique and calming environment also make the process more comfortable. If you’re afraid of needles, let us know – we’ll talk you through it and use techniques to put you at ease (like having you focus on breathing or using a vibration tool on the skin to distract nerves). You’re stronger than you think – and the results are well worth it!

Common, temporary side effects include: – Swelling: Especially in lips and around the mouth. Usually peaks day 1-2 and improves by day 3-4. – Bruising: Not everyone bruises, but small bruises can happen, particularly around the mouth or nasolabial area. These might take 5-7 days to fade. You can cover them with concealer if needed. – Tenderness: The injection sites may feel a bit tender, like minor soreness, for a few days. This is normal as the tissue adjusts. – Little lumps or firmness: Initially, the area might feel firmer or you might feel tiny bumps. As swelling goes down and filler integrates (within about a week), things
soften. If after two weeks something feels uneven, come see us – we can usually smooth it with massage or, if needed, a touch of enzyme to adjust (very rarely required). We provide written aftercare and are always a phone call away if you have questions. Serious complications with HA fillers are extremely rare, but we’re vigilant. For example, signs of vascular occlusion (severe pain, color changes to skin) are something we educate ourselves and our patients about – we have protocols and Hynidase on hand, but the incidence is exceedingly low especially in the areas Ultra 3 is typically used. You’re in a clinic that puts safety first.

Yes, one great advantage of hyaluronic acid fillers like Juvederm Ultra 3 is that they can be dissolved with an enzyme called hyaluronidase (Hynidase). If for some reason you didn’t like the result (maybe you feel it’s too much, or you have a lump that can’t be massaged out), we can inject hyaluronidase to melt the filler away. This restores the area to baseline usually within 24-48 hours. That said, we aim to get it right the first time by using appropriate amounts and technique to match your aesthetic goals. Reversing is typically a last resort and is rarely requested by our clients because we take care to produce desired results. But it’s nice to know that if something unexpected occurs, it’s not permanent. This is part of why HA fillers are so popular and considered low risk – you have an “undo” option.

There’s no strict age cut-off; it depends on what we’re treating. In younger patients (even early 20s), Juvederm Ultra can be used for enhancement (like lip plumping or a touch of contour). In that case, it’s not about age, it’s about the look you want. In older patients (70s+), as long as you’re in good health, fillers can still be very effective to soften deep folds and support areas of volume loss. We might combine them with other treatments like skin tightening or collagen stimulators if the skin is very lax, but fillers play a key role in a non-surgical facelift approach. So, whether you’re looking for preventative “prejuvenation” in your 30s, full rejuvenation in your 50s, or a little pick-me-up in your golden years, Juvederm likely has a place. During the consult, we’ll assess skin thickness, elasticity, and overall health factors to ensure it’s appropriate. Most adults who want moderate wrinkle reduction or volume enhancement are great candidates for Ultra 3.
